Incidents & Emergencies

Emergency Management

In the event of an emergency, it is essential all persons working on-site can understand and follow the emergency protocols provided by RASV.

Alert Tone

This tone (Beep, Beep, Beep) is used to alert workers that an emergency event MAY be about to take place. 

 

All persons must begin to prepare for a possible evacuation:

  • Cease work immediately and secure the workspace/ plant when safe to do so.
  • Prepare to exit the workspace upon instruction from the Warden.
 

Evacuation Tone

Upon hearing the evacuation tone (Whoop, Whoop, Whoop) all persons must immediately cease what they are doing and begin the evacuation process.

DO NOT û

ü Stay Calm.

ü Follow the Warden’s Instructions.

ü Exit the workspace via the nearest safe emergency exit.

ü Head directly to the muster point nominated by the Warden.

ü If your event has the Event Management Centre (EMC) in operation, report emergency to 9281 7400.

(Including the Royal Melbourne Show)

ü For all other events, report emergencies to Melbourne Royal Security on 9372 2744.

û Run or Panic.

û Take Risks that will endanger yourself or others.

û Use a fire extinguisher if you don’t know how.

û Address any emergency if you have not been trained or authorised to do so.

û Leave the site after you get to your muster point.

First Aid

During Bump in & Bump out each contractor MUST:

ü Have min 1x person on-site at all times who holds a current Cert 2 in First Aid.

ü Provide a compliant First Aid Kit.

ü Confirm First Aid arrangements with your Melbourne Royal contact prior to the event.

ü Report any First Aid response to Melbourne Royal or Security.

ü Only administer First Aid if you are trained to do so.

 

Note: Multiple First Aid posts are available during Bump In & Bump Out for the Royal Melbourne Show.

Melbourne Royal Admin office, Located in Building 13 - near Gate 5, Langs Rd, has:

  • A number of First Aid Officers who may assist worker casualties.
  • A stock of first aid kits.
  • An Automatic Electric Defibrillator (AED).
  • All RASV site vehicles carry a First Aid Kit.

Medical Emergency

 

If the nature of the emergency requires Emergency Services:

ü Call the Event Management Centre (EMC) on 9281 7400 - If in operation. (Emergency line ONLY)

ü If not, Immediately call 000.

ü Follow the Operator’s instructions.

ü Keep the EMC/ MR updated as they will assist the Emergency services in getting to your location quickly.

ü Melbourne Royal Staff will attend as soon as you request assistance via the EMC or MR Security.

ü Have a second individual call MR Security on

9372 2744 to inform them of the 000 call and advise the following:

  • Person placing the call
  • Emergency service required
  • Time the call was placed
  • Nature of the emergency
  • Location of the emergency
  • Contact number of the person placing the call

Incident Reporting

To help Melbourne Royal effectively manage risk and safety at Melbourne Showgrounds you are required to report all incidents, hazards, near misses and any threats.

This includes, but not limited to:

ü Incidents

ü Any Injury

ü Near Misses

ü Property Damage

ü Fire

ü Security Threat

ü Intoxication

ü Death


All incidents MUST be reported to:

ü Event Management Centre (EMC) on 9281 7470

If in operation (Non-emergency line)

ü Melbourne Royal Security on 9372 2744

– If EMC is NOT in operation

ü Your Melbourne Royal Contact

 

NOTE: EMC is not in operation for all events
